Fabulous
Moolah WWE Debut.
In 1949, when she started, Billy Wolfe was the dominant promoter whom was
married to Mildred Burke, a talented female wrestler. It is said June
Byers, another great female wrestler was having an affair with Billy
Wolfe so she could get better bookings. Which was the case when Mildred
was wronged in the first "screwjob" where her loss came as a shock to
her.
Fabulous Moolah debuted May 26th, 1949 against June
Byers.
June carried the title for 10 years until she was
stripped of the title in 1956 when she spoke of retirement plans. This left the
title vacant and a 13 woman battle royal ensued for the title.
June Byers got out of retirement to face Fabulous
Moolah but to no avail. With the exception of very brief times, Moolah
held the belt for the next 30 years.
